So,
what do you do to make your audition to stand out?
It's not always visual.
Material tactics are usually the most successful.
But with the additive of Visual tactics, you can make a beautiful audition that will not only make you stand out,
but will give you a much higher chance of success.
Let's start with Visual Enhancement.
Let's use examples from our very own High Rank Auditions.
If you roll quickly down the list, who's applications stand out more?
To me Windvoice, Brownstick, Sootflame, and Ashfeather do.
I hope you all are okay with me dissecting your auditions.
Some stand out in good ways, others not so good.
Collectively, Sootflame, Windvoice, and Brownstick opted for toggling with the default settings to adjust their auditions visually.
(Mind I am only going through VISUAL aspects right now.)
But, also Sootflame and Windvoice chose very abrupt colors, which are almost an ache to the eye. Honestly, I would find it hard focusing on the actual material you two included in the Audition due to them.
Brownstick on the other hand, chose a noticeable yet calm color so it makes his stand out and easy to read.
For Ashfeather, she increased her visual appeal greatly with a simple scroll and background.
HTML's can be very hard to learn, but even doing a simple scroll can make you seem much more advanced and suitable for many positions.
In summary, what's a quick way to make your audition visually appealing?
Backgrounds, colors, HTML!
Just keep in mind, if you can't read the whole audition without having to look away to rest your eyes, you should rethink the concept.
And always, don't be afraid to think out of the box. Creativity will always be on your side.
Now, what do people look for in a Audition?
3 things generally come to mind from what I've learned.
Experience, Attitude, and Confidence.
If you are lacking in one area, don't be afraid!
There is many ways to sell that even without one aspect you are still capable of the job.
So, when the common question of "Why are you fit for this position?" comes into play, what are you to say?
Never start directly with, "I am fit for this position because..".
It's boring, and immediately most people will lose interest.
More fittingly better things to say would be:
- I am able to offer you ...
- What I can bring to the RP that no one else can is ...
- Due to past experience in ... , I am more applicable because I ...
It's always okay to exaggerate lightly. Only on things that are true, do not make up lies to get something you will not succeed at.
So, now that you have made a impressive beginning to your audition, what do you fill it with?
Accomplishments, Experiences, ETC. Anything positive you have about yourself and your work.
DO NOT MENTION ANY OF YOUR FAULTS.
This is a huge no no, let's take a quick step into basic human psychology.
Humans like pictures, yes? If I say APPLE you picture an apple in your head, correct?
It's the same with everything.
Say you have a good streak going, you feel confident about your Audition. Then, you get to the end and then decide that your audition isn't as 'good' as others. Never put "I probably won't get this rank " at the bottom or something.
Not only does it bring the mood down, but people will often picture failure.
It will be seen as a guilt trip and a lack of much needed confidence. How are you going to do the job if you think you can't?
Summary
Be confident in what you put out. It's one of the biggest things people look for in writing.
