While wardshill and I were advertising, we decided to make a different kind of movie. Ward suggested 'The Lone Gale' so here's the best I could come up with under short notice.
T H E L O N E G A L E
(The setting shows a village somewhere in South America, somewhere tropical and naturally windy and rainy. People are mulling around happily and casually until the camera pans into one of the tents and stone houses to reveal a mother holding her baby and bouncing him in her arms. Words in asterisks are in the native language of the people)
MOTHER: *Baby*, you are our good-luck charm, it seems. Since you were born a year ago, *baby*, we haven't had a single storm or gale. I think I'll call you *blessed*
(She continues talking to the baby and it giggles in response, but she soon looks up in concern as she hears voices shouting outside. Soon, someone screams. She rushes outside to see what the matter is, only to see a fortress of grey clouds bellowing and swirling in the distance, but approaching quickly. She gasps, and runs back inside. The mother secures her baby in some kind of safe-haven made for storms to protect him, then starts collecting things to save as well. She finds a piece of parchment and a writing utensil and quickly jots down a single word, 'Gale', to explain what happened, should anyone find the babe. The camera pans out to show the rest of the village in mayhem and chaos, and then out further to show how quickly the storm gained on them. Thunder rolls and lightning cracks and rain drums. Women scream and men shout and you hear a baby wail. Then, while everything is loud, it goes dead silent. 'Three months later' rolls across the screen. You see a scouting expedition team, a rescue team, going carefully over the sight, checking tents houses and rubble. You hear a radio, scratchy and glitching, saying "The recent storm that hit *insert village name here* was the first in an entire year. It seems the clouds were building up, because no one's ever seen a storm that big for that long. It's truly a wonder if anyone survived that single storm, that lone gale. Teams have been sent out to save whomever and whatever they can..." The baby wails.)
TEAM MEMBER 1: Hey Dave, come over here, I think I heard something.
DAVE: (walks over) Is that... a baby?
TEAM MEMBER 1: I think so... it sounds like it's coming from here... (they enter the house from the beginning, which is now mostly rubble. They step over dead bodies, including the mother, and other broken things. They approach the safe-haven thing carefully and the baby squeals again. They unlock it, and see the note.) Whoa Dave check this out. It says 'gale'.
DAVE: That's weird... (He picks up the note in his hand and turns it over a few times. He looks down at the baby) Maybe... the kid's name is Gale?
TEAM MEMBER 1: Gale... You're going to be okay, Gale. We'll keep you safe, shh shh. (They pick up the baby and the camera pans out as they head back to their jeep/the rest of the team. The camera shows the rubble-filled and ruined village all around them and a gust of wind blows through as the title rolls across the screen: The Lone Gale )
